Quicken will not download historical prices – Mostly, you can download updated quotes or prices for securities you are tracking with no issues. But, on occasion, you might encounter one of the following situations when getting the latest quotes for securities on Quicken.

In case No quotes can be downloaded:
- The trouble connecting to the Internet.
- In case the Quicken Price History (QPH) file has been Corrupted.
- Quicken installation is Corrupted.
Few of them can be downloaded, but not everything:
- The security is not selected for download.
- Wrong ticker symbol contained by the Security.
- Security has the wrong security type: Be sure the correct security type is selected. If the security is a market index mutual fund, select Mutual Fund rather than Market Index.
- In case the security is thinly traded, such as an Over-The-Counter stock then Quotes are downloaded only if there is a trading volume of the security that day. If there were no trades that day, no quotes are downloaded.
- The Quotes for the security are not available for download
- Quicken Price History (QPH) file has been Corrupted
In order to select security for download:
- You need to select the Edit menu and select Preferences > Customize Online Updates.
- Now select the Portfolio tab and be sure the security is checked.
In order to check the symbol:
- First, you need to select the Edit menu and select Preferences > Customize Online Updates.
- Now select the Portfolio tab, right-click on the security option and then click the Edit button.
- You need to be sure the correct ticker symbol appears.
- In case you are unsure of the correct ticker symbol, contact your broker or use an online quote lookup service.
- The symbols cannot contain spaces or special characters, such as +, &, @, and so on.
- In case the stock has a class, such as the Berkshire Hathaway Inc. class A and class B stocks, try using a period instead of a space between the main stock symbol and the class. For example, instead of entering BRK A or BRK B, enter BKR. A or BRK.B.
How to Import Historical Security Data Into Quicken?
The Quicken allows you to import certain types of data, such as data from financial institutions, often referred to as “Web Connect” data.
Steps to Import Historical Security Data Into Quicken – Quicken will not download historical prices:
Step 1 – Import security prices from an ASCII file
In case you have an Internet connection, the easiest way to update security prices is to download them. Otherwise, you can import security prices from a standard, comma-delimited ASCII file.
- First, choose Investing menu > Portfolio and then select File menu > File Import > Import Prices.
- In the Import Price Data window > File field, enter the name of the ASCII file that contains the price data. The data must be in standard ASCII format with one symbol/price/date per line, separated by either commas or double spaces (using only one type of separator per line).
- The following import formats are acceptable:
- ABC, 123.456
- ABC, 123.456, 12/31/02
- The ABC 123.456 12/31/02
- ABC, “ABC”, 123.456, “12/31/02”
- “ABC”, “123.456”, “12/31
- In the Date field, change the date information if necessary.
- If the file doesn’t contain specified dates, import the prices to the date entered here. The currently selected date in Portfolio is the preset display in this field. Quicken matches prices with your securities if they have the same symbol. If your securities don’t have symbols, you’ll need to edit them first so they do.
- Click OK.
