Causes of the Quicken Prices Not Updating:

Due to several reasons some securities do not update when you download quotes or prices:

  • In Quicken the security is not available for quotes download.
  • Incorrect ticker symbol in the security or it is missing a ticker symbol.
  • In the One Step Update dialog, the security is not selected for quotes download.
  • Damaged security price history.
  • In case you are downloading on weekends or after business hours.

In case the security is available for download:

As we all know that not all the securities are available for quotes to download to Quicken.  In case you are not getting quotes for a lesser-known stock or an ADR you can test the quotes download in a new data folder. Steps to fix  Quicken Prices Not Updating – Quicken Support:

Determine for the correct ticker symbol

  1. First of all, you need to select the Investing menu in the Quicken and then Security List.
  2. Now scan your securities to make sure they all have correct ticker symbols, in the Security List.
  3. In case a security is missing a ticker symbol, or if you are not sure you have the correct ticker symbol for a given security, then click Edit in the toolbar.
    • First, you need to enter a missing ticker symbol in the Symbol box.
    • Now click Look Up to verify the ticker symbol is correct, Next to the Symbol field.

Check if the security is set up to download

  • Choose Tools (Online in older version), In Quicken and then One Step Update.
  • Now click Select quotes to update, in the One Step Update dialog.
  • After that click the Quotes tab, in the Customize Online Updates dialog.
  • Now you need to make sure there is a checkmark next to each security for which you want to download prices. Click Mark All, to set up all of your securities for download.
  • Click OK and Click Update Now.

Quicken retains your settings in the Customize Online Updates dialog until you change them again. The next time you download security prices, any securities that are not selected will not be updated.

Check for the damaged security price history

In case the security price history is damaged then you can delete the price history for security and rebuild it.

  • First of all, click on Investing in the top menu bar (using Classic Menus), then Security List.
  • Now select the security that is not downloading and then clicks Edit.
  • After that, you need to change the ticker symbol to an invalid ticker symbol such as SSSS, and then click OK.
  • Click on Delete quotes, in the Symbol Change Affects Price history dialog, and then click OK.
  • Now select the security that is not downloading and then clicks on the Edit option.
  • Change the ticker symbol to the correct symbol, and then click OK.
  • Now download quotes and then recalculate the investment register to rebuild your price history.

Recalculating the investment account will populate the price history for dates with transactions in the investment account. In case you would like to have a price history for dates without transactions, you can import security values to Quicken. Search in Quicken help for “import data” for information on importing security prices. Price histories are available for download from Yahoo Finance or other financial websites.

In case you download on weekends or after business hours:

The Quicken will download the most recently available price unless there has been no change since your last download. For dates when the market is closed and prices are not available, for example on weekends, Quicken displays est (for the estimated price) in the Portfolio’s Quote/Price column. This tells you that this price has not been updated for the date displayed in the As of field.
